I came to know of the Snap Snap November photo outing organized by the guys at 24seven thanks to a tweet by @victortan. Not being one to pass on such a rare opportunity, I signed up for it. This was also the first official field trip for my Tokina 11-16mm lens.
The 3 places we were going to visit
- Dairy Farm Nature Park
Bukit Timah Hills(Skipped)- Clementi Railway
I was expecting an actual dairy farm with living cows grazing the field, and we would actually get to see them being milked in the shed. I was wrong. Or at least something along those lines. There weren’t any.

For curious information seekers, most of the activity, if any goes on inside of Wallace Education Center. There is a whole lot of things down a very long timeline for you to learn from the exhibits displayed.

That was it for this end of the nature park. We were heading south to the quarry. While on my way to getting back on the bus which will bring us there, there was something captivating about the sky that I just had to shoot this carpark scene.

Before today, I didn’t know that a quarry actually existed in the midst of where we all live in. This was a real eye opener and an even better surprise. Who knows? There might actually be a waterfall somewhere, okay I am exaggerating.

Time and the weather wasn’t on our side and as a result, we had to skip Bukit Timah hills and hurry down to the Clementi Railway.
To get there, we had to brave through long grasses and climb a slightly steep slope and were promptly greeted by a danger sign. The railway have since been abandoned. But what’s a little adventure? This was the starting point and also the safest.

It might seem like an easy feat to just walk across it and back. Think again. The holes between the metal plates to walk on were strangely wide.

This was the furthest I would go on the railway tracks. A canal was conveniently sitting below it. With all my camera gear at stake, the paranoid coward in me did not want to take any risks, even if it was generally safe. These guys are daring.

A big thank you to 24seven for organizing this unique and memorable experience. I was encouraged to take part in the SG Tidbits 365 contest and so I have. I submitted a photo of the quarry. It was by far the most unique place in Singapore I have ever come across and if you like too, show your love and vote for me.
