Have you heard? Ping.sg turned 3 years old on 4th July only to endure some downtime and return with a pleasant surprise. Say hello to version 2.0. Since the change log is not quite done. Here is a wrap up of all that has changed (well almost).
Ping Comments
Besides the remake of the Ping.sg logo which sees the ‘g’ being replaced by the number 3 to celebrate its 3rd birthday, you would have probably noticed that pings now have comments.
![]()
I am honestly puzzled by this new addition. If anything, it drives away potential comments from visitors who stumbled upon your post through Ping.sg. All comments would go to the respective Ping page instead.
At a quick glance, the latest comments made on pings can be found on the right sidebar. And yes, there is an RSS feed for you to subscribe to and get notified whenever something new comes in.
Thumbnail and Category

Like Digg, an image thumbnail and category may now be attached to your ping. However we are not able to choose our thumbnail. From the looks of things, it is simply taking the first image (if any) in your post.
Before making any changes, you have to do a verification of your email address and blog which takes no more than a couple of minutes.
Unlike the thumbnail, the category is not ping specific. You can set your blog’s category by editing your blog options. Do note that the blog category feature is still in a beta phase.

To set your blog’s category, click on my blogs from your main menu, and then select the blog you want to edit.

A list of possible categories are available, and all you have to do is select the one which best matches your blog. For now, we are limited to one per blog. It would just get too messy if each blog were to have more than a category.
Notification Preferences
Like the setting of your blog’s category, you need to verify your email before you are authorized to make any changes. If you have already done so earlier, you shouldn’t be seeing this message. The options are quite self explanatory.

If I have missed anything, do let me know and I will add it in. For the full changes, please be patient and wait for version 2.0’s change log. And of course, here is a big thank you to Uzyn for all the hard work in making this update.

the comments on pings have been there from the beginning. it’s just that it wasn’t utilized back then and honestly I don’t find myself using it either.
That’s very impressive writeup considering no changelog has been posted yet.
I’ll have to finish up the changelog update soon.
Thanks!
