My Long Awaited Sergeant Promotion

It is official. I have just been notified that with effect from 10th October 2008, I will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant. I am definitely welcoming the extra increase in moolah with open arms.

I was worried there might be a delay in processing my promotion as I did not go through the route of a regular PES A/B. I was upgraded from PES C9 to B towards the end of my BMT, and unlike many others, I did not go through the exact same training.

I had only done an IPPT more than my fellow squad mates, and that was the difference.

Throughout this past year, I have not once regretted my decision to push for an upgrade. All the way from getting a memorandum from the specialist to patiently waiting for my PES status update to taking an IPPT just after having showered on a Christmas eve. If I had not, I would probably be looking forward to a Corporal promotion right now instead.

I doubt the increase would be reflected in my upcoming month’s paycheck due to be credited in less than an hour’s time. Right now words can’t describe the excitement of getting a raise in my allowance.

This promotion effectively marks the end of 1 year of my service to the nation. Less than a year to go before I resume a life of a civilian. Who knows? That year might just pass me by before I could roar “ORD lo”.

Hey congrats, but why did you have to push for an upgrade? Are you a combat specialist?

I am not with the SAF but with SPF. I couldn’t stand not being to go through physical training and exercise.
