My First at Dodgeball

It was games day and we were going to be playing Dodgeball.

It has never been played during my primary and secondary school days. Dodgeball is more common in the U.S. than in Singapore. It was the first time I was actually playing the game. Well a reduced version anyway, no more than 5 minutes of game play.

The mere mention of it remains me of an episode I watched in Dexter’s Laboratory on Cartoon Network. It feels as though I was propelled back into time by a good 10 years. Nonetheless it is a fresh change from the usual games I engage in such as football.

The game isn’t all about dodging the ball thrown at you by the opponent. You have to find the balance of attempting to eliminate your opponent as well as prevent yourself from being eliminated. Of course, your agility and reflexes do matter, as would the speed of the ball launched by you.

As individualistic as it may look, this game actually requires a lot of team work and communication. Sometimes taking out a member of the opposing team isn’t as simple as just going on a head on confrontation by taking turns to launch the ball at each other. It takes an effort by the team to follow up each launch, making it near impossible for the opponent to duck, and that is just one of the ways.

Though it was extremely short, I really enjoyed myself in the 4 matches we played, winning 2 games and losing 2. But for our efforts, I got a SGD $10 voucher from Capitaland.

A movie of my choice? Works for me!

I never played Dodgeball before but it reminds me of another game which i often play when I was in primary school and thats ‘Han tam bo lah’. It is basically almost the same way except it can be played in teams or individuals. Usually we use tennis balls because its light and not as painful when strucked lol. Hmm.. I wonder how many people remembered or knew this game..
