Mount Kinabalu Adventure in July

It is all set and done. Come July 3rd, I will be heading to Sabah, Malaysia to conquer Mount Kinabalu together with 4 of my other friends. I am excited and already raring to go for this trip. It is something different from all of my travel experience thus far. All along I have been dwelling in the cities, never have I been surrounded by the vast wonders of nature the entire time.

This trip gives me an opportunity to actually climb a mountain for the first time and experience the indescribable feeling when I reach the summit. Let’s not forget I get delivered first hand a breath-taking view of the surroundings from over 4000m high.

We will be traveling to Kota Kinabalu via Air Asia from Johor Bahru. As a result, we have to make our own way there from Singapore. As of now, the plan is to actually hire a cab who will take us to Johor Bahru and send us back home when we return on the July 6th. Our accommodation and meals along with the travel program are handled by X-Trekkers; an adventure travel agency. In other words, everything has been arranged for us by them.

I know it is still very early and there is a good 3 months to go, but I am unsure of what needs preparing. I know I will definitely be bringing a well conditioned body there but I am not sure how I would be coping with the thinner atmosphere there.

Anyone who has the experience of climbing mountains, do share with me some tips on preparing for the climb and also what to expect when I am actually there.

We paid SGD $400/pax for accomodation, meals as well as the climbing programme, looking forward to it. From what I read in Kenny Sia’s post, there wasn’t really tips, I am just bringing along a conditioned body as my form of preparation.
