Chek Jawa

I have never been to Pulau Ubin and this long waited photo outing to Chek Jawa with the gang was my very first on the island. No I am not joking. It was a beautiful day at the start, clear skies with even prettier clouds. What more could we ask for?

It was a long journey by foot to Chek Jawa, and we got a van to transport us there at SGD $4/person. Before officially kicking off the photo outing, I dropped my 77m Hoya UV filter. It just came off my 11-16mm like that. Thankfully, there were no scratches and those marks were nothing my lenspen could not handle.

We were greeted by the boardwalk, it reminded me of the Changi Boardwalk.

We stumbled upon a swampy land with very unique foliage, at least its roots were nothing like I have ever seen before. The most interesting part of the entire scene was an army of crabs.

Unique foilage

It was so interesting that most all of them would just sit by there trying to photograph them. See what I mean? I would have too if I had something longer than my 11-16mm. A 300mm would be great. And no, my interest is still in landscape photography.

I must admit something. I am a little afraid of heights, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to go to the top of this viewing tower. And I wasn’t disappointed one bit.

While on the way down from the tower, I was feeling adventurous and decided to deliberately underexpose this photo to bring out this very game-like representation of the scene.

After returning from Chek Jawa, we decided to explore the early bits of Pulau Ubin where the bicycle rental shops and eating houses were all located. By now, the sky was gradually changing to an entirely different representation of what we saw in the morning.

If you are wondering why the clouds in my photos are so prominent, it is because of the 2 stop GND filter – an absolute must in landscape shots. I didn’t pass up on the chance to process some HDR photos too.

That marked the end of our relatively short stay in Ubin. I would love to return here one day in the near future to cycle and maybe do some further exploration of the island.

First time you are thanking me, but you are welcome. Next time, when carrying a heavy bag, don’t just get up like that. You will seriously hurt your back.
