A Cagey Affair at 2300 hrs

As I was about to leave for home on Tuesday, a couple of my NS friends invited me to a football session. Assuming it was for the afternoon the next day, I rejected them swiftly, citing my duty schedule as an excuse. It was there and then that I got to know of their crazy plan.

11pm to 1am at The Cage, not forgetting that all of us have to report for work the very next morning.

In any case, I would be crippled for the entire week away from football and exercise due to my duty schedule, so I thought to myself, “What the heck! Lets get crazy together. This is one of the far and few opportunities I get to kick a football this week.” Setting off to play football at a time when the average Singaporean would be retreating home was very refreshing.

The latest into the night I ever played football was till 2230 hrs, that was when I was a mere Secondary school student preparing for my O’ levels.

This was however only my 2nd time playing in The Cage.

In there, gone would be the intense heat conditions that I am so used to suffering from and the worries that our playing ball would be innocently destroyed by an on-rushing vehicle. The challenges which comes with it are the non-stop action and the side barriers which absorbs the force of the ball when hit onto.

I had a blast though falling ill in the process probably due to the lack of adequate rest, but just for that 2 hours of footballing enjoyment on an artificial grass pitch, it was well worth it.
