I have been missing out on Lorelle’s blog challenges for quite some time now and it is time to get my engine up and running again. This week’s challenge is to Write A Travel Post.

In June 2007, I went on a 7 day holiday to Taiwan. The setting was slightly different from what I am usually used to back in Singapore, I was in an aboriginal township of Atayal to see Wulai Falls; a tourist attraction which has received its fair share of positive buzz on many travel forums.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we decided to head to the scenic viewing area of Wulai Falls by foot. There were countless turns at every end as we walked up. Every single house we passed by had at least a dog guarding it if not two, not one was spotted without a dog guarding its entrance. It was a very nervous moment for us because we were ensure as to whether we would be attacked by them.

At a certain point, there were winding roads which required us to select a path. For a moment, we were at a lost but thankfully, there was a guide by the roadside whereby we could refer to track our current location and plan our route to Wulai Falls.

As the sound of the waters gushing down from the waterfall became more evident, we were filled with an extra push of enthusiasm to increase our pace. Not long later, we could see Wulai Falls from afar.

Wulai Falls from afar

What separates us from the scenic viewing area of Wulai Falls was this walkway which was being guarded by this tremendously huge dog. Nonetheless, we decided to take the risk and attempted to enter. Upon advancing with a few steps, the dog gave chase and instantly, we dispersed into different locations to run for our lives. Thank heavens that it did not actually pursue us.

It was only through the assurance and restraint of the owner on the dog that we managed to enter the walkway and eventually make our way to the scenic viewing area. And before long, we could see her; Wulai Falls.

Compared to other waterfalls, Wufai Falls is very small, it is only measured at a height of less than 100 meters. Still, it was gorgeously stunning, this isn’t like many waterfalls whereby its water simply gushes directly downwards. Wulai Falls has its waters segregated and that made it all the more beautiful. A lot of time was spent just admiring it and carefully opening up our ears to the sweet yet thunderous sound of waters hitting the rocks below.

To view Wulai Falls, we certainly went through some adversities and had the scare of our lives but in the end it was well worth it. I have finally realized my dream of seeing a natural waterfall.

What a magical place! Hadn’t you seen a “natural” waterfall before? Wow. How fun. Where I grew up, we have them in our backyard - too much rain. :D

Wonder what was the story behind all those dogs. And too bad you didn’t go past the dog to get closer. Still, what a magical experience. Thanks for sharing it through the blog challenge.

sadly no, because i live in singapore, though we do not have any natural disasters, we do not have nature beauties as well.

it is a must for every house to have a dog for some reason. i did went past the dog thanks to the owner who managed to restrain it, my only regret was that i couldn’t get any closer to the waterfall. it is an unbelievable experience and i really loved it.

i went to taiwan, but not just within taipei.

wulai falls is situated in northern Taiwan. i like traveling with nature, i don’t really like to stick to the idea of shopping too much while on vacation.
