I am going to kick start fulfilling one of my new year’s resolution for 2008 as early as this weekend. I have decided to learn Rock Climbing. Come this Sunday, I will be commencing a SNCS Sport Climbing Level 1 course at Climb Asia.

A 1 day certification course spreading over 7 hours will cost me SGD $50. Coincidentally, they are located at the Civil Service Club which is simply a 15 minutes walk for me. My only experience of climbing was on a machine likened to a rock wall located at the Kallang gym. However it is nothing like a rock climbing wall, it is electronically powered and with time, the platform layout of rocks you are mounting gradually changes.

I know how physically challenging rock climbing is and can’t wait to taste the feeling of conquering my first wall. I am excited about the prospect of actually becoming an independent rock climber who would be able to scale the different types of mountains around the world. But of course, before all that, it is essential that I have learnt how to put the techniques to good use and keeping myself safe during the course of my climb.

Though I love to delve in anything IT related, I am more of a person of the outdoors. If I were given a choice of spending the entire week at home with my computer and attempting to conquer Yosemite, I would choose the latter.

A tranquil scenery combined with a devilish physical challenge is an ideal setting I would love to be in. To appreciate the beauty of mother nature and yet testing your physical limits is an achievement I personally rank above all others. You push yourself to your extreme and your reward is an appreciation of a breathtaking horizon which spreads across your very eyes.
