A while back, I stumbled upon a post which tells of separating pings from comments by editing the functions.php file. The method which I have used is to make use of filters to strip away trackbacks and pingbacks from the original comment number. It used to work fine like a charm, that was until WordPress 2.5 was released.

Instead of displaying the number of comments on the main index, it was including the number of trackbacks and pingbacks as well. Take my recent post ‘Goodbye Nuffnang‘ as an example.

At the time this post was written, it had 11 comments and 1 ping. But the number of comments displayed said 12 instead of 11 on the home page.

I sent the email to the author of the post at Weblog Tools Collection; Ronald Huereca regarding this new found bug. And quite swiftly, he replied, acknowledging the problem and within a day, a fix was out. Kudos to him!

Do check out the post, under the heading ‘Update for WordPress 2.5 - May 1, 2008′ for the fix.

Ouh…I didn’t know there’s a plugin to separate comments from trackbacks.
