I am surprised that my Sony Ericsson K800i had lasted me for quite sometime. Upon April, it would reach its 18th month and I do not recall owning a mobile phone for such a long time frame, not that I owned many mobile phones anyway. This was my 4th mobile phone.

While looking at a host of potential phones to acquire, I chanced upon a Sony Ericsson Walkman series model which caught my eye. An improvement over the W880i; the W890i.

Specifications At A Glance

  • Dimensions: 4.1 x 1.9 x 0.4 inches
  • Weight: 78.0 g
  • Colors: Black, Silver, Hazel Brown
  • Memory: Internal memory of 28MB with Memory Stick Micro™ support (up to 4 GB)
  • Camera: 3.2 Mega Pixels

It is not a mobile phone which will wow onlookers with a phone memory of 28MB or a 3.2 Mega Pixels camera. However the sexy appeal of the W890i lies within it’s thickness. Measuring at just 0.4″, that is how incredibly slim it is.

I do not need a mobile with extravagant features such as a 5.0 Mega Pixels camera or with a touchscreen functionality. A mobile for me should just be what it is, a phone. I need it to perform the basic functions like sending and receiving text messages and calls.

For snapping pictures, I have my Sony DSC T100. To listen to music on the go, my iPod Video accompanies me. It doesn’t justify packing every single functionality in the mobile. What I hated most about my K800i was its processing speed, it takes relatively long to navigate and as a result, I could get frustrated just looking through my message inbox. That is why I am not casting my eyes on feature-packed mobiles.

The W890i has just been released for sale by Singtel and Starhub at $268.00. I have my eyes set on the hazel brown colored one and in time to come, this shall replace my Sony Ericsson K800i.
