Next generation iPods
Apple has just released the next generation iPods: Shuffle, Nano, Classic (Formerly Video) and Touch. A complete revamp to every single one of them. All of which have undergone minor aesthetic changes and some technical modifications.
The full details can be found at Apple’s Official Site
Difference Between iPod Video and Classic?
I currently own an iPod Video, pretty much obsolete if you consider iPod Classic has replaced it. Other than a metal enclosure, a whole new interface which I am not very fond of and at least an additional 50GB of storage space, there isn’t anything else which separates Video from Classic.
Classic just does not have that appeal which will force me as a consumer to lay out my cards and contemplate getting it, I am more than contented with my 3 month old 30GB IPod Video which has worked amazingly well for me thus far.
Touch is the newest edition to the iPod family. It has web browsing capabilities, a built in organizer, touch-screen navigation and wifi-access, features which would wow the crowd to a standstill IF they didn’t know about the IPhone.
iPod Touch Has Lost Its Identity
It is no different from the visuals in the IPhone, surely Apple’s creativity is not limited to just that? Functions and interface wise, what has Touch got which IPhone does not?
A flawless way of describing Touch would be an “IPhone without its phone capabilties”.
Can anyone recognize this gadget as an IPod instead of an IPhone on a first look?
NO!
Sadly Touch does not have its own identity and I am not afraid to say this: Apple has failed miserably for once in defining their products. I was hoping any new release candidates for the iPod would be flourished with its own uniqueness and style, and not be a mimic of one of their upcoming products.
What I have always appreciated in their products is their innovation and unique creativity to package, making each product stand out in a crowd. Just like they have done with the IPods until now.
Put Apple’s Previous iPods in a crowd of MP3 players and it would instantly stand out. However for sure I can’t say the same for Samsung, Creative, Sony or other MP3 players. That is the kind of identity Apple has been giving its products all the while, I am quite disappointed to say that this identity will be gone in Touch.
