Did I ever mention that I was a Sony fanatic? In my collection is a DSC T100, W890i and Vaio VGN FS25GP. What is missing is a Sony Bravia LCD TV, but that is for sometime in the future. My 3 year old notebook has never given me many problems. This 15″ delight may have been wide and weighs at a sweet 2.7kg, but it has served me well since my 2nd year in Singapore Polytechnic up till now.

There was a memorable incident which I can never erase from my memory.

It was your regular day to a tutorial class in the morning. As I was about to exit the train at Dover station while slinging the notebook bag over my shoulder, the sling gave way. The bag wasn’t just holding my mouse, charger and notebook, there were also a couple of textbooks and a file in there.

When it dropped, I went:

WTF! Narbei!

I was pretty certain that I was heard in the train and how embarrassing it was too. But I couldn’t care less, I was late for my tutorial. A speedy walk up the hill to T20 followed.

As soon as I got a seat in the class, I immediately switched on my notebook to assess the damage. When I opened it up, the latch chipped off and I went again:

WHAT THE HELL!

As a result, my notebook was unable to be closed completely. That was not the only defect. The set would at times do an auto restart during wireless surfing and while playing a graphics intensive MMORPG game like Silkroad. There was an extremely weird jack noise coming from the speakers as well. From then on, I never carried my notebook bag by slinging it over my shoulder.

At the present moment, my notebook is without 2 keys (the ‘}’ and the menu key) as they had mysteriously popped out and I was unable to fix it back. As every programmer would know, the ‘}’ key is very crucial, what would we do without it? As for the menu key, I could care 2 hoots about it. Don’t use at all. I hope to get these 2 keys fixed back as soon as possible, preferably before my classes at NAAEC begin.

My 2 year extended warranty only expires in mid July, so I better get going. Hopefully I can expect a much better service than the last time round. For the time being, I would have to find company. Who would be a kind soul and lend me a notebook?
