This past weekend was a tough one. Besides attending the final intensive classes for Computer Science Concepts, I was also coding out practical 3. As soon as I got home , I would start on it and only forced myself to stop when I could no longer hold up.

After having painstakingly taken 3 days to complete it, I felt both physically and mentally jaded. The stress of submitting the source code before the deadline really got to me and I decided on a much needed break to get away from coding altogether. Intrigued by the idea of a solo field trip to Mount Faber, I took my recently bought D90 for a test run.

It is an indifferent feeling altogether just having your camera and nature as company instead of your friends.

Let’s start off with the generic photographer pose of holding one’s camera. However the closest I could get to a mirror was in the toilet, so I had to make do with shooting it there.

It was only after the picture was taken that I realized I was holding my D90 slightly slanted to the right. But the lazy me did not want to snap a second time.

Do you remember the playgrounds you used to beg your parents to let you go to during your younger years? The ones which were built on sand and are almost no longer in-existent now? This broken ride just reminds me of it and the many memories I had playing there.

If you do not know which is my favorite station at the fitness corner, now you do. As tempting as it may look, I did not do any pulling.

I went on the treetop walk. And along the way, there were many plant and flower subjects for a good picture, and here are some which I really liked.

The treetop walk ended at the Alexander Arch but I decided to get a little adventurous and head over to HortPark for a look around.

On the way back, there was this adorable cat hanging around the pavilion at Terrace Garden. She had scars of abuse all over her. I decided to make her the subject of my shoot. She was really shy at first, alerted to any sudden movement I made. But as time flew, she started getting comfortable and got closer to me.

I could see she was hungry, but I have not a single ounce of cat food on me. I did offer her a bottle cap full of water though, but she flatly rejected it. I suppose not all domestic cats have a taste for water. At a point of time, she thought my finger was food and actually bit it. However she immediately released her grip upon knowing it wasn’t something for her to eat as though she was trying to apologise.

As I was about to make my way down from Terrace Garden, she came running towards me, and I decided to accompany her for just a little while longer. There she was, purring at me while stroking herself against me the whole time. I was very reluctant to leave her but I had to.

What I got from this visit to Mount Faber: a couple of mosquito bites, a test run of my D90 and most importantly, a quiet time to myself. I certainly feel recharged and ready for any forthcoming challenges.
