Milkbox
By now, Lightbox-enabled sites should not be something foreign to you. There are so many Lightbox alternatives available. Some fine examples include Lightview and FancyZoom and Slimbox. And just recently, I chanced upon another one: Milkbox.
Introduction
To a certain extent, it could be considered yet another Lightbox clone. But then again, it has it’s own identity. In comparison with the other clones, Milkbox is unobtrusive. Its transitions are concise and trimmed to the minimum.
The navigational buttons are all placed in a common location, convenience is a strong point. I never click on them because I have the habit of using the arrow keys to get me going. I like the concept of Milkbox being “international”, elegant arrows and a cross to depict their respective functions.
Did I mention that Milkbox runs on MooTools 1.2? Lightbox alternatives built to run on MooTools are far and few, and this so happens to be the one which I like the most.
Give it a try
If you need some convincing, here are some random pictures with which you can give a test run.
Note: The demos won’t work. Due to a standing bug, I have reverted to using Slimbox.

Milkbox seems good, but I like the emboldened captions of Lightbox more.
Have you encountered any problems so far with Milkbox?
the transition feels smooth, is it lightweight?
Kym: So far I have no problems with Milkbox, and it is working great.
S.Kiat: Including the libraries, it is only at 84kb. I would consider it lightweight.
Milkbox looks good, if there’s something for jQuery it’ll be even more cool, haha
I’m using Slimbox too!
The thing is though: when you try scrolling when your screen is greyed out, things get a bit shaky.
Kym: On the contrary, I didn’t notice the shaky bit, works rather smoothly for me.
