Less room for abuse with ping.sg
Ping.sg is updated with 1.80, a version which has done a good clean up of the flaws which was evidently present. Apart from the modification made to determine the popularity of a post (which I will go into detail later on), I couldn’t help but notice how much cleaner the site is.
Pongs and Reads
Previously whenever a ping is clicked, it would contribute to the total pong count. It does not actually detect whether the user who clicked the ping is unique or not. This presents a flaw which many users have exploited. Clicking on it repeatedly would increase their pong count. Try that now, and the ping is always going to be capped at 1 pong.
Registered users will contribute to both the pong and read count when they click on a ping - just like how it has always been. Guests or unregistered users will only contribute to the read count.
Do note that Pings are ranked through the pongs it receives and not the reads it gathers.
Poof
For the past week, Ping.sg was filled with posts on the Edison sex scandal and that really dampened my mood when I was surfing the site. I could find nothing in the most popular posts except on Edison’s sex scandal pictures. By poofing, you are actually flagging a particular ping as inappropriate.
Ping.sg explains the idea of poof perfectly:
Poofs are not only useful to filter your own customized Ping.sg. More importantly, poofs are being recorded and if sufficient poofs are recorded from Pingsters towards a certain ping, the ping will be deemed as community-flagged and will not be eligible to be on the ranking board.
But please be aware that it will be harder to get a ping community-flagged when it has gathered more pongs, so do poof early, before a bad ping gets big.
Pong Revocation
Many a times, I have accidentally ponged a ping which turns out to be nothing more than a misleading title or a content of a single-liner. Now you can revoke your pong so that it doesn’t add to the total count. Titles not delivering what they promised just doesn’t deserve that pong from you.
This version on the whole corrects a lot of exploited flaws, and there is less room for users to abuse the system. However it is not entirely perfect, there are still loopholes, but then again this would suffice for now.
A job well done Ping.sg!

Wow what a good idea!
