Is DreamHost’s Plan for Real?
When Sze Kiat introduced me to this mega webhosting plan by DreamHost, I couldn’t believe what my eyes was staring at because it was an offer too ridiculously good to be true. I honestly felt it was an unnoticed typo error, but few weeks down the road, the same details are still being reflected on the site.
For just a mere USD $10.95/month, apart from the core hosting features, you will be getting:
- 500GB of disk space with an increase of 2GB every week
- 5TB of bandwidth with an increase of 40GB every month
Even the webhost which I consider most premium and advanced in technology and arguably one of the best on the Internet along with ComputingHost, Media Temple; does not offer that much storage space and bandwidth.
In comparison with DreamHost, Media Temple’s USD $20/month provides you with:
- 100GB of disk space
- 1TB of bandwidth
What Media Temple is offering to its customers at USD $20/month is a good one-fifth of what DreamHost are currently advertising at USD 10.95/month with regards to storage space and bandwidth. ComputingHost on the other hand currently do not have any plans which boasts more than 25GB of disk space and 700GB of bandwidth.
I would appreciate it if anyone hosted with DreamHost can reconfirm whether what is being advertised on their website is true. Do note that I do not have any intention of terminating my ComputingHost webhosting plan which still has 5 months to go before it expires.

Yep, it’s true - I have 5120 GB starting bandwidth (+40 GB per week) and 5 GB diskspace as shown in my webadmin panel.
However, 5.95 is for people who sign for 10 years hosting (!), for one year it’s 9.95.
I wouldn’t really bother about the diskspace and bandwidth that much because the speed of which users can access your site is more important (plus ComputingHost’s plan seems more than adequate) - Dreamhost’s servers are something quite slow at times
i cannot imagine having so much bandwidth and disk space since i am not actually putting MP3s or videos for that matter available for download. computinghost caters to what i need, and the speed with which i am able to access my site is relatively quick too.
Thats actually a known business technique used by several hosting companies. Surveys and researches have been done and people who ordered such planes used less than 10% of the resources there bought.
This business strategy is called overselling or something. It plays on the fact that people will not use up all the resources fully.
However in some other companies cases, some people indeed use up all the bandwidth and space given (most probably for hosting big files and giving people download etc) and after overselling, the hosting company bursts.
In other words its like giving 20 people with plans of such that it adds to a total of 2TB worth of space but only on a server with a maximum of 80gb of space.
this seems very dangerous when considering your account may go bust anytime when the company go bust too. I’m working with 250mb free space and it serves me just right. Pictures, video just upload to picasa and youtube
ComputingHost.com is offering what they can with the price which customers pay them. Some hosts use Overselling to create a market Hype.
I like ComputingHost.com for their service and support. They are ready to give you solutions for anything as long as you let them know
