I am on Plurk
I have finally made the jump from Twitter. I am now on Plurk. Following the mass exodus of pingsters from Twitter to Plurk, it has given me a bigger reason to get my hands dirty and give it a trial run. Just what is it about Plurk that has gotten so many making the switch?
Powered with AJAX, it begins with a customizable nifty interface and a timeline. In Twitter, there isn’t a view with which you can keep up to date with the latest responses to your tweet. Not in Plurk though. Each plurk has its own “space” and any response are threaded nicely in a chronological order just like in a commenting system. Easy to follow.
What notably sets Plurk apart from Twitter on its first look is the highlighted verbs we can use to begin our plurks with. Something along the lines of ‘Darran loves the endless beauty of nature’. Of course you are not limited to using certain verbs to kick start every plurk. It is a real pity tinyurl is not integrated in Plurk, just as it was with Twitter.
Having those long lengthy URLs in your plurks are just not a neat sight to begin with. What gets users including myself so addicted to Plurk is how it gets your involvement, similar to a real time forum thread. You are always going to want to come back to check back on the responses if any. It comes to a point that you end up refreshing the page every couple of minutes. I am satisfied.
Plurk has worked on what Twitter was lacking (including the frequent downtime) and has convinced me. My latest tweet have also since been replaced by my latest plurk thanks to the “Plurk for WordPress” plugin by Ricardo González. Do join me at Plurk.

Integrated tinyurl is sorely missed, but you can create links by typing URL (title of link)
Eg. http://www.limetouch.com (limetouch)

krisandro: Thanks! That was so useful.
I see the fail whale too often on Twitter.
yeah i like plurk’s interface compared with twitter, and the karma thing is very addicting
check out http://phplurk.com, you can update using sms. what’s missing is the free notification provided by twitter before.
anyways, if you can’t login and worried that your karma will decrease you can sms your updates. thats what i do.
