Day 4: Shop till you drop
The threat of missing the breakfast time slot always lingers on my mind every single day. Thinking to myself, there is bound to be a day we would finally miss breakfast. This was the day it finally happens. We had to settle for breakfast at Xi Men Ding, hopped onto one of a random shops to have dumplings.
Situated in the outskirts of the road, what is so special about this shop is that there is an automatic door which you have to press to open. Not the kind of the doors you would expect to see in a shop. The dumplings were too dry for my liking but it can pass for breakfast.
Dessert was next at neighboring dessert shop. Really like how this shop is laid out in the basement, yes it has 2 floors. Really brings a very youthful look to the shop, reminds me of the walls in Far East Plaza where graffiti is the norm.

My favorite: Mango Shaved Ice but it was not as great as the one in Shih Lin Night Market. For me, what seduces me is the texture of the ice. I really like the ones which look like thin slim pieces of shredded chicken, that for me reaches the standard and of course the fruits have to be fresh.
Onto Wu Fen Pu; walking distance from Hou Shan Pi station, a shopping paradise, a heavenly sanctuary for our female counterparts. All girls would know this particular area in Taipei, it would be a sin for them if they are in Taipei and do not visit this bustling place. When we arrived, Wu Fen Pu was basically sleeping. It was only at 11.30am whereby all the shops started to open up slowly.
If you think Bugis Village is confusing, wait till you see Wu Fen Pu. It is at least 7 times bigger, yes this is no exaggeration. Plus the ratio of girl’s clothes to guy’s clothes is at least 8:1. So you can imagine why I brand this a shopping paradise for girls.
It is impossibleto find shops you visited for the 1st time without walking at least a few hours finding your way out of the countless streets.
We were shopping from 11am all the way to 5.30pm and even then, I can’t say that I have covered all the shops which are there. That is the extent of how big Wu Fen Pu is. The only downside to it that majority of the shops do not have a changing room, that makes choosing a shirt very difficult unless you are absolutely sure that you would look good in it. Bought 2 tops, a V-neck t-shirt and a sleeveless shirt.
Headed to Raohe NM, it is quite a distance from Wu Fen Pu. Raohe is very long, by far the longest night market I have seen, but there is really nothing interesting there. They sell what is being sold in other night markets and I didn’t really like the long stretch of stalls, really kills the experience. Smelt the most fermented beancurd ever, phew …
The shopping at Wu Fen Pu definitely took out a lot out of us, it is back to the hotel at such an early time.
