Since having completed my Sport Climbing Level 1 course, I have not had the opportunity to actually return to Climb Asia to climb due to the lack of fellow climbers to tag along with. However luck had shined upon me. I had 2 companions and off I went for a good 4 hour climbing session.

I did not really encounter much difficulty in conquering the routes on the wall until today. I took on 2 routes of grade 6A and 6A+, titled ‘New Balance’ and ‘Bluewater’. These routes can be found on the grayish wall to the right of Climb Asia’s entrance as you enter the Multi purpose hall. Feel free to try your hand at it. Note: The routes are changed monthly.

I was not able to conquer ‘Bluewater’ due to its difficulty but I have my mind set on reaching the top the next time round. However I did managed to conquer ‘New Balance’ though it took me quite a bit of time.

Prior to starting this route, I was feeling rather weak, the strength within my fingers and arms seemed to be gradually disappearing from my very self. Even starting the climb got me into some difficulties.

Despite being stuck several times at certain points of the climb, I refused to give up, persisted and mustered up every ounce of strength to make the final lunges to reach the top, and I eventually did it.

I feel very proud of myself because instead of telling my belayer that I give up, I chose to persevere and conquer the route.

Some credit has to be given to my belayer who kept me going strong with encouraging words and some directional advice while I am on the wall.

While being totally engrossed in climbing, we unknowingly lost track of the time and ended up spending a long 4 hours at Climb Asia. The aftermath of my climb were blisters, abrasions, some small cuts as well as numb and sore fingers.

I am feeling some discomfort as I am typing this post, but it is getting better already.

I have also signed up for the Sport Climbing Level 2 course on the 24th and 25th of May. It costs SGD $105. If any of you are interested, feel free to leave a comment if you are attending the course on the same day too.

Edit: Due to my injury, I have postponed getting my Level 2 certification.
